Wise Wunu (PhD)

Dr. Wise Wunu is a Doctor of Music Education, a music education consultant, lecturer, and a piano teacher at Music Haven.  He is a highly trained Music Educator with extensive expertise in teaching, research, curriculum development, and policy-oriented arts education.  He is also a cultural advocate whose work bridges scholarship, performance, and community engagement.  Dr. Wunu is an accomplished pianist and organist, as well as a composer with a strong focus on African pianism, where he integrates indigenous musical idioms, rhythmic structures, and philosophical perspectives into contemporary art music and pedagogy.

Academically, his interdisciplinary training spans Developmental Neuroscience of Music, Psychology of Music, and the Philosophy of Music Education, providing a strong theoretical foundation for understanding how music supports cognitive, emotional, and social development of the student.  He has developed robust quantitative and mixed-methods research skills from advanced training in Measurement and Evaluation and Advanced Statistics.

Dr. Wunu’s professional interests include music learning from early childhood through adulthood, culturally responsive music education, African musical thought systems, assessment in music education, and the role of music in human development and societal transformation.  Through teaching, research, composition, and advocacy, he remains committed to advancing music education as both an academic discipline and a powerful tool for cultural preservation, intellectual growth, and social development.
